    Since I don't design baluns it is difficult for me to give a good answer on this. My thought is that as the impedance ratio get higher so does the parasitic coupling in the windings. This results in lower BW. Special construction techniques are used to optimize this in order to achieve higher impedance ratio's and perserve BW. Marki Microwave has some balun offerings with some of the highest BW available with a 1:2 or 1:4 impedance ratios.
