I am going through the getting started guide (document UG-292) for the AD6641 eval board and HSC-ADC-EVALCZ. I run into an issue when trying to configure the SPI Controller Software (page 8). When I first open the SPI Controller software I am prompted to load a config file. I select the AD6641 config file but I get the following error “Read Test Failure. Chip ID is not known. NewDUT() will not proceed. Check Chip Select # or USB cable. Cfg should be re-loaded.” I tried resetting my computer, the software, the boards, and the USB connection with no luck. When I press the “Read” button in the SPI Controller main interface it reads the wrong ADC “AD9246, 14 bit 125 MSPS.” I believe that I have P200 and P400 on the AD6641 eval board set correctly as per the instructions. Also it seems that the FPGA on the HSC-ADC-EVALCZ programs fine via the USB connection. Any help would be appreciated.
The anomaly you're describing is characteristic of an EVB to PC communications/USB Driver problem, or a basic power connection issue. Couple of things to check initially:
1. Please make sure you have administrator access permissions when installing and running the VisualAnalog and SPI_Controller Eval Software tools. The USB driver for the HSC-ADC-EVALCZ will be installed with our software tools. Installation of the required USB Driver can be confirmed within the Windows Device Mgr interface.
2. Once installation of the USB driver is confirmed, insure the provided power adaptors for both the AD9434 and HSC-ADC-EVALCZ are properly connected to the respective hardware brds. Once hardware is powered, open VisualAnalog and proceed with the instructions outlined in the UG-292 User Guide.
