AD9697 Output Configurations for N΄ = 16

Hi all,


Our customer is confused by the "lane rate" or "serial lane rate" calculated.


In the datasheet 65 page,

Example Setup 1—Full Bandwidth Mode

• Output serial lane rate:

• 6.5 Gbps per lane (L = 4).

• 13 Gbps per lane (L = 2).


We understand these set up.


But in the datasheet 62 page,

Table 31. JESD204B Output Configurations for N΄ = 16

At decimation filters bypassed and L = 4 or 2,

"Lane Rate = 1.6875Gbps to 3.375Gbps (L=4)" or "Lane Rate = 3.375Gbps to 6.75Gbps (L=2)"

What is this "Lane Rate" ?


We understand the lane rate is related to the JESD204B parameters using the following equation:

In the datasheet 61 page,

Lane Rate = M x N' x (10/8) x fOUT / L

fOUT = fADC_CLOCK/Decimation Ratio

Lane Rate = 1 x 16 x (10/8) x 1300MHz / 4 = 6.5GHz

Lane Rate = 1 x 16 x (10/8) x 1300MHz / 2 = 13GHz

Is this "Lane rate" "Serial lane late" ?

    Hi,

    When L=4, M=1, the table on page 61 indicates that lane rate = 5 x fs.

    fs = 1300MHHz

    Therefore lane rate = 5 x 1300MHz = 6.5GHz

    When L=2, M=1, the table on page 61 indicates that lane rate = 10 x fs.

    fs = 1300MHHz

    Therefore lane rate = 10 x 1300MHz = 13GHz

    The columns "1.6875Gbps to 3.375Gbps" for L=4 and "3.375Gbps to 6.75Gbps" for L=2 are only applicable if a different sample rate is used. For example, if sample rate is 650MHz, then the late rate will fall under the "1.6875Gbps to 3.375Gbps" when L=4.
