AD9102 ACE software - To use it as function generator with 500us pulse 10us rise/fall time

Thread Summary

The user is unable to generate a 500 μs pulse width with a 10 μs rise/fall time using the AD9102 DAC at 156.25 MHz due to the 4096-sample SRAM limitation. The solution is to reduce the DAC update clock to 7.8125 MHz or lower, and regenerate the SRAM waveform with 78 samples for the rise and fall, and 3906 samples for the high level. Ensure the external clock path and DC-coupled output are selected in the hardware and ACE software settings.

Using the DAC clock 156.25MHz I've generated a code using python for 500us pulse width 10us rise/fall time with amplitude 100mV - low to 750mV - high. But I couldn't able to set the 500us, since the overall frequency it covers for 4096 samples are 20.066us as there is only 4096 samples for 14bit DAC as per its internal clock. Below I've attached the image for reference. What to do, to get the desired pulse? I've used ACE software to implement this.

And I've also tried using an external DAC using an FG with 8.192MHz pulse as it can implement 500us pulse width. But couldn't able to get any signal. Kindly let me know the ACE software settings as well.

  • Hi  ,

    Thank you for using AD9102.

The 500 µs pulse cannot be generated at 156.25 MHz using the 4096-sample SRAM because the full memory only represents about 26.2 µs. To generate a 500 µs high pulse with 10 µs rise/fall time, the DAC update clock should be reduced to approximately 7.8125 MHz or lower, then the SRAM waveform should be regenerated using about 78 samples for the rise, 3906 samples for the high level, and 78 samples for the fall. In ACE, select SRAM waveform mode, set the DAC clock to the actual external clock value, configure START_ADDR/STOP_ADDR for the loaded waveform, and ensure the pattern period is longer than the full waveform length. Also verify that the external clock path is selected in hardware and that the DC-coupled output path is used, because transformer/AC-coupled outputs can show only spikes or droop for this type of slow pulse.

    Thanks and kind regards,

    Alex
