Hello,
We are using the AD9910 DDS and plan to implement a frequency sweep using the Digital Ramp Generator (DRG).
Our application requires a continuous sweep from 20 MHz to 100 MHz, but within this sweep there are several frequency bands where the output power must remain low (or the frequencies should effectively be skipped). The exclusion bands are:
The desired sweep profile is therefore:
20–30 MHz → 35–50 MHz → 60–70 MHz → 75–85 MHz → 90–100 MHz. These bands will change in real-time.
Our objective is to perform this sweep without introducing any additional time delay or dwell time at the boundaries of these exclusion bands.
We would like to know:
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi suyogchoudhari1 ,
Apologies for responding late. I have been getting problems with the notifications and this is one of them. I have been trying to answer all unreplied threads.
To answer your question, no. The AD9910's DRG cannot skip frequency bands, it only sweeps linearly between two limits.
An alternative would be to use RAM mode.
Pre-load only the frequencies you want into the AD9910's 1024-word RAM (skipping the exclusion bands). Playback is continuous with no gaps in timing, the output jumps instantly past excluded frequencies.
If exclusion bands change in real-time: Use the parallel data port with an external controller (FPGA/MCU) that feeds frequency words on-the-fly, skipping bands in your control logic.
All the best,
Jules
