On the use of eval-hmc659: 1. How to provide power supply vgg1 and vgg2, and how many are they (vgg2 = 3V, vgg1 = - 2 ~ 0V in Datasheet)? 2. How to connect rfin and rfout? Can the input signal rfin be sine wave and pulse with DC bias (the frequency range of rfin in the datasheet is dc-15ghz)? 3. How to provide VDD sharing the same port with rfout? Is it provided by adder?
This is a relatively complicated part to use. If you are not experienced in using depletion mode devices, you may want to look at using a different device. The supply voltage is applied through an inductor or bias tee to the RFOUT & VDD pin. You also need to ac couple this output along with the RF input. This is how you separate the supply voltage from the RF signal. Set VGG2 to 3 V using a resistor divider that is connected to the supply voltage. The VGG2 pin does not pull much current. And finally you have to appropriately sequence the the VGG1 voltage. Set VDD to 0V, Set VGG1 to -2V. Increase VDD to 8V. Then increase VGG1 until the quiescent drain current is 300 mA (VGG1 will be approximately -0.8V). You can configure the HMC920 active bias controller to do all of this.
The RF input can be a continuous sine wave or it can be a pulsed sine wave. It cannot be a pulse.
