1pcs AD9510 support 8 pcs AD9959 as a Clock Distributor for the Reference and SYNC_CLK

Thread Summary

The user asks if a single AD9510 can support 8 AD9959 devices as a clock distributor for REF_CLK and SYNC_CLK. The final answer recommends using two AD9510s, as each can provide 4 LVPECL outputs. Alternatively, if the AD9959 can accept LVDS AC coupled clocks, the remaining 4 LVDS/CMOS outputs can be used. If not, two ADCLK944 LVPECL buffers can be added to distribute the clocks.

Hello,

I want to confirm if 1pcs AD9510 support 8 pcs AD9959 as a Clock Distributor for SYNC_CLK, in the datesheet  example circuit, it only support four pcs  AD9959. so if we want to output  clock for 8 pcs AD9959 as reference and SYNC_CLK,  we need 2pcs AD9510?

pls give some recommendation  for this solution.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

my recommendation is to ask the AD9959 board about this. I support the AD9510. The AD9510 has 8 outputs, but only 4 of these outputs are LVPECL and the other 4 are LVDS or CMOS.

If the example you refer to from the AD9959 data sheet is the one in figure 25: it shows two AD9510 devices. One of them generates REF_CLK using the PLL, while the other generates SYNC_IN in buffer mode after receiving one SYNC_OUT clock.

The AD9959 seems to require LVPECL AC coupled clocks. See if it can receive LVDS AC coupled clocks. If the answer is yes, then you can use the other four channels on each AD9510 to clock the other four AD9959 devices. If the answer is no, then just add two ADCLK944 LVPECL buffers. On the first one you take a LVDS clock from the 1st AD9510 and create four LVPECL clocks. On the second ADCLK944, you take a LVDS AC coupled clock from the 2nd AD9510 and you pass it through the ADCLK944 to create the other SYNC_IN clocks.

  • Hello Petre,

Thanks for your reply, I will check AD9959 for the clock requirment.
