HMC7043 & HMC7044: Maximum frequency while using delay

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: HMC7043

Hello,

I have a question about the deference of "output channel" between HMC7043 and HMC7044.
The maximum output rate of HMC7043 using analog fine delay or digital coarse delay are different from HMC7044.
The maximum analog fine delay frequency: 1600MHz(HMC7043, 3200MHz(HMC7044)
The maximum digital coarse delay frequency: 1500MHz(HMC7043), 3200MHz(HMC7044)

I had understood the characteristics, the HMC7043 output channel and HMC7044 output channel, are the same. (Since both allow the same frequency input)
However, the specifications on the datasheet are not the same between HMC7043 and HMC7044 about this.
What is the reason for the difference?
Is the die different in the first place?

Best regards,

  • Hi y_suzuki,

You are right. Fundamentally, HMC7044 and HMC7043 have the same output distribution structure. However, I would like to point out that they are not the same die.

Both chips underwent an individual characterization process. The limits for the characterization were specified as 1600MHz at the time of their release. Therefore, HMC7044 and HMC7043 were characterized using the limits of 1600MHz maximum frequency with delay.  After that, with the customer feedback, ADI recharacterized the HMC7044 and released the Rev A datasheet. The limits were updated.

The design of the HMC7043 output channels also supports 3200MHz maximum frequency with delay. However, it is not characterized up to these limits. So, we can not guarantee coverage for said frequencies.

Thanks for pointing out this situation. I’ll bring this topic to the attention of the design evaluation team for consideration.

    Thanks,

    Emrecan

  • Hello Emrecan,

    Appreciate your support.
So, is it safe to assume that in the future, after HMC7043 is re-evaluated, the specification of output frequency with delay may be revised to 3200 MHz?

    Best regards,
