Will it be possible to drive the AD9914's REF_CLK input at 3.5GHz in single-ended mode directly from the RFOUT/2 output of the ADF5508? (still using the DC blocking cap as recommeded in the AD9914 data sheet, of course).

Hi JimminyPhoton,
You can clock the AD9914 using a 3.5GHz single ended source but one thing to be mindful of is that the ADF5508 is not a PLL. Any variation on the VTUNE input will translate in a frequency shift on the REFCLK input which will not be actively corrected without added components. This frequency shift of REFCLK results in a frequency shift of the AD9914 output.
If you plan to bypass the internal AD9914 REFCLK PLL we recommend using the AD9525 with an external 3.5GHz VCXO.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Kyle
