Thanks I have the presentation.  One question regarding IMU's.  We're thinking we'll likely want something that can give us absolute heading too (so something with a magnetometer).  Is there a recommended device that includes magnetometer? Or open to other thoughts on getting absolute heading.

This application will be indoors, where steel beams and other metal structures would cause the Earth's magnetic field to distort in unpredictable ways. If magnetometer is used in the heading output I would suspect the output would be affected adversely. Is this the case? Does all the internal Kalman filtering in the IMUs involve the magnetometers? Any compensation for distortion in indoor environments?

We are planning on using an IMU together with dead reckoning for localization. Does the gyro output have any magnetic compensation or is it independent of magnetometers?

We were leaning towards the 16460, but it may be worthwhile to test one of the IMUs with magnetometers and Kalman Filtering just to see if it buys us any performance with less software on our side. Testing would be in an indoors location similar to the final location. Perhaps the 16375, 16480 or 16448? Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Hi Alex,

The ADIS16375 does not include a magnetometer. The ADIS16488A is a higher performance tactical grade version of the ADIS16480. I would suggest looking at the ADIS16448 first.
