AD1939 TDM mode and compatibility with MCHStreamer

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: AD1939
In the datasheet for the AD1939 on page 16, figure 12 and 13 say in parenthesis (8-Channel I2S Mode).
Is this a misprint since the figure is supposed to say "I2S Mode" since the figure is supposed to be showing a TDM stream?
If this is not a misprint, is the diagram showing both and 8-Channel TDM stream and a seperate 8 channel I2S stream configuration?

Also, I was wondering if the AD1939 chip would be compatible with the miniDSP MCHStreamer in TDM mode.
It looks like it will work to me, but I just want to make sure.
I would be using the AD1939 to convert a balanced analog signal into a TDM8 signal to send it to the MCHStreamer and then I would use the AD1939 to convert 2 TDM8 signals (16 channels) into analog from the output of the MCHStreamer.

  • Hello thaines3,

This is a diagram about the AUX mode. This is where you can bring in four more AUX DAC channels. They would come in on two I2S lines and be inserted into the TDM data to drive other external DACs. There are a few strange and confusing modes on this part.

You would not be using the AUX mode. Also note that the diagram is showing TDM16 which is what you will need to use for this AUX mode.

The only useful modes is the daisy chain mode to allow you to combine the data for four ADC from two different chips into one TDM8 data line.

Yes, the TDM 8 mode can be setup to be compatible with the streamer.
