There are multiple options to interface the microphone and speaker of your choice. The details mentioned in the getting started pages are the optimal ones and the most easy to use with the evaluation board. Following are the options available,
SPDIF Input and Output
Analog Input and Output via the 3.5mm Jack
Digital Serial I/O (I2S/TDM) pins available on the eval board
ADC and DAC pins of the AD1937/AD1938 Codec on board
