About MAX4466 and MAX4468 datasheet schmatic question!

Hello, I have a question. According to the specification sheet, MAX4466 and MAX4468 are both in the same specification sheet. However, from the schematic diagram, MAX4466 takes the input signal from the IN+ pin, while MAX4468 takes the input signal from the IN- pin. Does this indicate that they are not the same type of amplifier?

  • All of the products in this family are effectively Op-Amps which require negative feedback to function.  With op-amps you can use them in either inverting, or non-inverting configuration.  Connecting the incoming mic signal to IN+ will result in a non-inverting gain.  Connecting the incoming MIC signal to the IN- input will result in an inverting gain.  This should be easily researchable online. 

    Both the MAX4466 and MAX4468 are minimum gain stable of 5V/V.  This allows greater maximum bandwidth, but you cannot use a gain lower than 5V/V.

    The only difference is that the MAX4468 includes a MIC_BIAS and a Shutdown pin and the MAX4466 does not.

    I plan to use the MAX4468 for the preamplification of the MIC. The MIC model is Knowles FG-23652-P16. Since the MIC has three input lines, could you please help me check if this circuit connection is correct? Also, I need to increase the default gain. Can I adjust the resistance values of R18 and R19 to achieve this?

  • The MIC connections look correct.  You will want to ensure the MIC bias voltage provided matches the microphones expected range.
