Is it possible to generate a Periodic White Noise signal in SigmaStudio 4.7 like in REW?

Category: Software
Product Number: ADAU1701
Software Version: Sigma Studio 4.7

Hello everyone,
is it possible to generate a "Periodic White Noise signal" in SigmaStudio 4.7 that corresponds to the properties of the REW generator (see attached picture)?

If so, could someone please show a screenshot of the implementation?

The parameters:
White Periodic
Full Range
Correlated
Sequence Length 128k
Optional: Minimize Crest Factor

Thank you
Anton

  • Hello Anton,

I cannot say 100% exactly what the settings are. The code is protected and this block was programmed a long time ago as one of the early blocks in SigmaStudio so the person who programmed it is probably not here anymore. But, I did talk to someone who was involved with a lot of the early code writing. He said that the white noise generator is essentially periodic since it always uses the same seed. I do not know the sequence length. Have you tried to use it?

  • Hello Dave,
    Thanks for your reply!

I tested the white noise generator both with and without seed. Neither produced the desired result.
The reason for my desire to implement the described REW noise generator function in Sigma Studio is as follows. I prefer to measure speakers with noise in REW instead of sweep. With the described settings in the REW noise generator (see image) and the corresponding settings in the REW Realtime Analyzer, I get a static image of the frequency response in real time and can save it with a mouse click. To prevent the curve from fluctuating during the noise, REW's RTA needs periodic noise. It would be convenient if I could generate the signal for this directly from Sigma Studio.
This bypasses the sound chip and its driver in the PC, eliminates the need for audio cables, and always has the same, defined measurement levels.
I did a few more tests and learned that the REW menu item "correlated" doesn't play a role for a signal not generated in REW, only in REW itself. I generated a wave file in REW (1 minute duration) with periodic white noise, 128k length, played it through a player, and got the result I wanted. Since I'm using the ADAU1701 in addition to the ADAU1467, I'm also dependent on Sigmastudio 4.7. I discovered the wave player in Sigmastudio+.

    Thanks again and
    best regards
    Anton

  • Hello Anton,

I will continue to ask in the company to see if there is a solution for you. Meanwhile, I should point out that there is a wave player in SigmaStudio 4.7.

It is only available for the Sigma300/350. The Sigma100 (the ADAU1701) is not capable of playing wave files.

  • Hi Dave,

thanks for your help and your time. It would be great if you guys find a solution.
