    Hi, 
    

    I have this requirement where I need to store .WAV file in our system and my system shall be capable to play the stored .wav file using a headphone which has an impedance of 600Ω. The output requirement is dual balanced output which varies from 0V to 5V (Conventional Driver Biasing Scheme), the input of amplifier can be a single/differential ended DAC output connected to it for example 2Vrms input.
    

    For the above requirement can I use MAX9711? or any single IC solution which has a DAC and class D amplifier with a dual balanced direct drive output (though looking for a Conventional driver biasing scheme, we want to explore direct drive also).

      Hello AdarshKhegde,
      

      We have parts that are designed to be headphone drivers. The SSM6515 is one of them. The issue with headphones are government regulations for max power for hearing safety. It should be specified as an acoustic power but I am not sure how the regulations are written. As we both know, the same output voltage level with a 16 ohms load is very different power dissipation than if you have 600 ohms. 
      

      But the SSM6515 has a digital input not analog. You can look at some of our codecs like the ADAU1372 or the ADAU1772, ADAU1777 and ADAU1797 which are all designed to drive headphones and all have ADCs built in as well. 
      

      I will forward your question over to someone who supports the 9711 so that we can answer your question more directly. 
      

      Since you mentioned a stored WAV file. Therefore you need a DSP of some sort of some sort of audio processor. What else do you plan on having in your system?

                      Here the .wav file I am talking is not kind of long speech, it is a few type of short duration tones, hence our thought was to have the .wav file converted to a digital form externally and store it in a flash. FPGA will read the digital format of that tone from flash and send it to a Audio DAC, later Audio DAC out will goto a Audio amplifier since we have a cable running to a distance to drive the speaker of 600 ohms.
        

         
        

        Since we were not using Microphone, Audio codec is dropped, decided to have a DAC and amplifier which drives 600 ohms speaker/headphone. We need an amplifier which is balanced output conventional driver or direct biasing with an amplitude of 0V to 5V.
        

        Currently we have a DAC identified, hence looking for the audio amplifier. MAX9711 can deliver higher power, for our application where we need low power would this be a better part?

        How long is the wore going to be to the speaker?
        

        The reason I ask is because if you use a class-D amp you will be radiating a lot of energy into the room and also the extra capacitance will slow down the edges and increase distortion. I have a feeling distortion is not super critical with this application but it also affect efficiency etc. 
        

        You might want to use a good old analog amplifier! Have a look at the SSM6322.
