Differential amp Gain

Category: Hardware
Product Number: MAX

re the  Gain Resistor (for the differential amp):
What is the maximum possible gain (ie, lowest R_gain value) ?

The datasheet example p8 says 11.11kΩ = gain 20V/V (26dB), and the Electrical Characteristics p2 gives 1.01kΩ = 200 (46dB).
I have set R_gain as 330R (56dB), can it go lower to give higher gain  or have I hit a ceiling ?

  • Thank you for your interest in the MAX4063.  46dB is the highest gain recommended.  That said, I don't know that you've hit a ceiling as higher gains (lower RG) should work.  However, the formulas to calculate the gain might not be as accurate.  You would need to experiment to determine if operating outside of our recommended gain range will meet your needs.  It should also be noted that this will increase the output noise.
