MAX97220A–MAX97220E datasheet says "Footprint Compatible with the MAX9722" and describes how to make a board compatible with both in "Figure 4. MAX97220A vs. MAX9722 PCB Layout".
Does that imply the MAX97220A is a newer, better version of the MAX9722A? What's improved?
Our factory substituted the MAX9722A and I want to know what to test to confirm that it's good enough.

I also would like to know what are de differencies between MAX97220A and MAX9722A.
MAX97220A has newer datasheet but it is not listed into headphone amplifier products as MAX9722A.
Two significant changes were implemented in the MAX97220A:
1) the input stage was redesigned in order to withstand common mode input swing of +/- VCC/2 and to improve the THD+N in line-driver applications (i.e. high resistive load);
2) an offset self-trimming feature has been added.Other improvements concerned:
1) control of the quiescent current
2) stability with high capacitive loads (up to 500pF)
3) cross-over distortion
4) behavior (i.e. less distortion) during output clippingThe change to common mode input swing and the self-trimming feature were added due to feedback from certain customers.
