SHARC Bare Metal SDK Update Timeline and SAM Audio Starter SDK

Category: Software
Product Number: ADSP-SC589
Software Version: SHARC Bare Metal SDK Release 2.1.2 / SAM Audio Starter SDK 1.0

I know that audio processing works "out of the box" on the SC589 mini board Revision 2.1, using the current SAM audio starter SDK (or alternate SDK).

I have also learned that the SHARC Bare Metal SDK is undergoing updates to reach compatibility with the SC589 mini board Revision 2.1 board.

Is there an approximate timeline for when an updated SHARC Bare Metal SDK, updated to work with SC589 mini Revision 2.1, will be made available?

Also, is it advisable to proceed with using the the alternate SDK, instead, for new designs (I am new to the SC589 platform)?

I am merely looking to see where my efforts and time are best spent.

Thanks,

Chris

Made board name references the same.

  • Hi Chris, both audio starter and BareMetal framework are good choices for audio projects in my opinion. audio starter has better connectivity support, like ethernet, usb, shell etc whereas the baremetal framework is more traditional audio processing architecture. If you are new to SHARC processors, baremetal FW should fit in more. The new SAM Rev 2.1 is slightly different from SAM Rev 1.x in audio clock source and ethernet PHY. the baremetal FW doesn't support PHY so the software change is pretty minimal to run on new SAM. The baremetal FW for SAM Rev 2.1 is on the way but needs time to be released. You may update the current baremetal framework to adapt to hardware changes with our guidance. If you would like to proceed with this approach, let us know.

  • Hi Iliu,

Could you please provide the instructions how to update the baremetal framework for SAM Rev 2.1 to me, too?

    Thank you,

    Tom
