SigmaStudio, ADAU1701 and Windows 11 on M2 Mac running Parallels

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADAU1701
Software Version: SigmaStudio 4.7

Hey all,

I'm running a MacBook Pro M2 with Windows 11 on Parallels and am running SigmaStudio just fine. I am running into a problem with the included programmer for the EVAL-ADAU1701MINIZ (https://www.analog.com/en/design-center/evaluation-hardware-and-software/evaluation-boards-kits/EVAL-ADAU1701.html).

The USBi programmer (EVAL-ADUSB2EBZ) is showing up under Other devices in device manager and what I've found in looking through other documentation is the following:

"Connect the USBi to an available USB 2.0 port using the USB cable included in the evaluation board kit. (The USBi does not function properly with a USB 3.0 port.)"

That quote is from this documentation for another eval kit that uses the same programmer: https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/user-guides/EVAL-ADAU1777Z-UG-1055.pdf

I can't tell if it's because I'm on an ARM processor now and there are no ARM drivers for this programmer or if the issue is actually USB 3, in which case... that's all I have on my computer. I tried a USB hub to try and see if it would recognize it as a USB 2.0 device but that didn't seem to do anything. I tried adding the drivers manually but it says it can't find the drivers when I point the manual driver folder to the Sigma Studio driver folder.

So my question is... is there anyway to get this to work with Windows 11 or USB 3? I know the Parallels thing and the ARM processor changes things.

Or, is there another programmer I can buy that will still work with the ADAU1701 eval board?

Thanks!

  • Hi Dave

Considering the new Apple Silicon processors used in Macbook / iMAC are stable, with a good benefit-cost ratio and remembering that there are many users using this kind of computer around the world, I leave here my suggestion of ADI starts to develop a version of SigmaStudio dedicated to MAC OS alike the company Digilent did with the software called WaveForms. Thus we could have a default SigmaStudio running directly on Apple computers.

  • Hear, hear! It’s an ongoing expense at my company to have and maintain a windows PC solely to run SigmaStudio. At times, I’ve been able to get Parallels to download to the ADAU boards, but this usually ends up in the dreaded Comm Failure through USBi.

a MacOS solution would reach an increasingly large customer base.

An alternative might be to create a web client and to limit the machine specific work to the implementation of stable USBi drivers for the various platforms.

    thanks.
