MAX98380 can only double the boost voltage

Product Number: MAX98380

Hi team,

I would like to ask a question about Max98380 output voltage (VPVDD) configuration. when using the default settings that BST_BYPASS_MODE = 0, Vbat=3.7V and the charge pump tripler is enabled, the output voltage(PVDD) should equals to 3 x Vbat. But the actual measured output voltage(PVDD) without load is only 5.9V. Could you please help me to find out the reason why the output voltage did not reach three times of the input voltage?

Thanks & Best Regards,

  • Hi Leon,

Can you confirm if you're testing this on an evaluation kit with the audio interface board attached?

If so, the basic configuration that should work is evaluation kit w/ audio interface board connected. In the audio interface GUI (found under 'options' toolbar in max98380 GUI), the 'Board Control' tab should have DVDDIO = I2CDD = 1.8V.

On the physical boards apply and double check for PVDD = 3.9V, VDD = 1.8V, and then configure the device with the max98380 GUI's pre-installed register settings "KGU_Default_Config.98380".

If the audio interface board is meant to supply clock and data signals, please check they are selected under the "Audio Controls" tab (BCLK/LRCLK and DOUT boxes are checked) and IOVDD = 1.8V under the "Board Control" tab.

If all this is configured correctly, you should see PWRUP_DONE = 1 when reading back register 0x2001 (a second read will clear the bit).

Let me know if there are any issues.
