I already have this evaluation system and understand that the ADAU1761 has (limited) DSP functionality itself.
Is it possible to program the ADAU1761 directly by using SigmaStudio?
First you will need a USBi interface. It has a 10-way ribbon connector. So you will need to fashion a cable to split the signals to attach the SCL and SDA to the eval board.
The EZ-Kit schematic details where to connect to:
The serial ports of the 1761 are connected to nets TWIO_SCL and TWIO_SDA
These nets show up on P9 which is not populated. This is the place to solder the wires to.
Keep in mind that the net also show up on pin 18 and 19 of the Blackfin so the I2C port must not be active when using the USBi. It does not support multi-master mode.
The details of the pinout and use of the USBi can be found here:
All you need to connect between the two are the SCL, SDA and GND. The SPI connections, power and reset do not need to be connected.
