sine wave generator using ADAU1777

Hi everyone,

I am working on ADAU1777. I would want to know if there is any way to create a sine waveform generator by connecting the DAC output to unused ADC input.

Thank you,

Alekhya.

  • Hello Alekhya,

So you mean to feedback a signal from the DAC back to the ADC to setup an oscillation and then be able to control it? I cannot say that I have tried this! It seems like this would be somewhat unstable and difficult to ensure that it would work with every unit. But, I suppose it could be done but I don't think this will work well.

Let us know if you are  able to do it. I just know that  in the old analog days getting something to oscillate reliably can be difficult.

Why not just use an ADAU1701?

  • Hello Dave T! The Adau1701 has only a sine generator with external control. I would like to recruit a set of generators and have a triangle, a meander, a saw. Is it possible to create other waveforms from the sine generator? Thank you! With respect, Alex!

  • Hello Alex,

I think you are referring to the Voltage Controlled oscillator correct? Then you are right, there is only a sine wave generator.

You can setup a program to use counters to ramp up to a number then count backwards. By changing the counters it could generate a triangle wave and a sawtooth wave could probably be devised in a similar way.

I don't have time to work on this right now but it would be an interesting project.

  • Hello Dave T !

I don't know how to do what you're talking about. But if there is more information, I can create a project and publish it here. I think for many people it will be interesting to have a large set of voltage controlled oscillators. Sincerely, Alex!

    Hi Dave T!

I managed to get an oscillator with a saw shape. He works beautifully on my oscilloscope. But this oscillator does not work at all in my projects. What's wrong with him? How to make it work?
