SSM4567 for output 2*1W Speak application

Dear Sir,

Customer wans to use SSM4567 for 2*1W speak output. Since the SSM4567 have I/V sensing, Is there anything else that we should pay special attention for this application?

    Hi Yen Chen,

    Yes, SSM4567 has integrated IV sense and also has boost converter to bring the supply voltage upto 5.1V from 3.6V Battery. This would enable you to get around 2 X 1W output. The Boost converter can be disabled if not required and power the SSM4567 using supply available in the system. 

    The one more thing to note, this amplifier uses 5 level modulation that helps improve the efficiency during low output level. But for this to work, the boost converter must be enabled. 

    Also note this part is WLCSP ( die is exposed) so care is required in handling during the assembly and also when designing the board. Please refer to the User Guide for the Eval Board for the reference PCB layout.

    Please pay attention to the load impedance in your application, The SSM4567 can support the min load impedance of 4 ohm.

    1. Could you please provide the suggestion of  the 2 speaker is series (2*4ohm speaker )or parallel(2*8ohm) on output?  And       Which stracture and impendance would you suggestion?

    2. If using parallel structure(2* 1w ,8ohm),Since the speaker impedance error. Do you have the experience for I/V sensing compensation can share with us?

    Hi Yen Chen,

    I think both speaker configurations would work. However I would like to understand, what is your concern? Are you trying to use the IV sense data for signal processing? If yes then the speakers would have to be of same type i.e. DCR, coil Inductance. Also they may needed to be characterized for the require application/ processing. Will require the details on your application to guide you further.

    As for current, the part would report the total output current based on the effective speaker impedance seen by the amplifier. The appropriate scaling will have to be done in the DSP for current.

    As for the voltage, the output voltage at the SSM4567 output terminals would be reported on the IV sense data.

    As you might be aware the speakers can have lot more variation in their parameters based on the Mfg and  something to watch out for if you are trying to predict/ calculate the Voice coil temperature for example.
