For SIL applications customers have to perform a FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis). Complex semiconductors sometimes make it impossible to perform such an FMEDA as the interaction of the different blocks in the device are difficult to analyze. MAX12900 has a very modular design of separated building blocks. This allows to determine the impact of failures, and makes MAX12900 usable in SIL applications up to level 3.
