Question
How do I avoid electrostatic interference?
Answer
Very high impedance electrometer circuits are susceptible to interference through capacitive coupling. Interferences can be reduced with a shield. Ashield is a piece of conductive material placed between the high impedance input and the interference source. It must be electrically connected to alow impedance source (such as signal ground). If the shield physically interrupts the capacitive coupling paths, the displacement current from theinterference source is shunted to the low impedance source.
