Question
The AD8354 Evalboard with L1 choke mounted, works fine at 5V and doesn't work
at 3V. However,this should be the otherway around according to Table 5 in the
datasheet (Revision D).
Can you confirm, if the datasheet is correct.
Answer
The datasheet is correct and the choke works as it should (i.e. choke should be
removed at 5V and mounted at 3V).
Can you check your input power level. The 1dB compression point is 4.6 dBm
(output referred) This limits the input power to around -15dBm. If the input
power is beyond this, then the part is compressed.
On the otherhand, running the part at 5V and using the inductor increases the
collector to emitter voltage higher than a level considered safe for long term
operation of the part.
Attached is S-Parameter data from Product-Line Engineer for the part with the
following conditions:
Pin = -30dBm, Pout =-11.2dBm, Gain= 18.8dBm and VPOS=3 V)
