LTSPICE simulation does not converge

Thread Summary

The user encountered convergence issues when simulating a circuit with two LT1997-2 amplifiers in LTSpice. The problem persisted even after updating to the latest LTSpice version (26.0.1) and component libraries. The user found that replacing the negative power supply with -1V resolved the convergence issue, but the root cause remains unclear. The final answer suggested checking for updates to the LT1997-2 model.

Hello,

I am currently evaluating an instrumentation chain consisting of LT1997-2 under LTSPICE. The idea is to measure voltages across capacitors, which are currently replaced by capacitors.

When I simulate the LT1997-2 with a gain of 0.16 and powered between 0 and 5V to measure a differential voltage across a voltage source, everything works fine.

When I add a voltage source below the first one to create common mode, everything still works correctly.
The problem arises when I add a second LT1997-2 to measure the differential voltage across the second voltage source, which is referenced to ground.

I don't understand where the problem comes from, since during my first test with a single voltage source, the simulation converged correctly even though one of the LT1997-2 inputs was connected directly to ground.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, or do you have any suggestions?

  • Hi  ,

Good day. I have tried simulating your circuit, and I did not encounter any convergence issues. Have you tried updating your component and version of LTSpice? There seems to be an update for the model of LT1997 to support the new version of LTSpice. Thank you.

    Regards,
    Gilbeys

  • HI ,

    Thank you for your feedback.

My software was not up to date. I just upgraded to the latest version, 26.0.1.
I then updated the component library.
Finally, I started again from the simulation file available on the LT1997-2 page and modified it to obtain my 2-component structure.
But I still have a convergence problem on U2.

If I simulate only U1 with its voltage source and the low active voltage source to create a higher common mode, I have no convergence problem.

I am attaching the simulation file I used.
Would it be possible for you to send me yours so I can test it on my computer?

    Regards,
    Luc
