Dear EngineerZone,
Currently using the MAX16913A, and we have several questions regarding the short-circuit detection current and RSENSE selection.
Based on the datasheet, when RSENSE = 0.65 Ω, the short-circuit detection current can be calculated as:
-
ISC = 100 mV / RSENSE = 153.8 mA
In theory, when the load current exceeds the ISC threshold (approximately 153.4 mA), the output (VOUT) should be shut down.
However, we would like to clarify the following points.
Q1. Short-Circuit Current Specification (340 mA)
In the Features section, a current value of 340 mA is mentioned.
-
Is this value based on 2 × ISC,
-
or is it related to the Absolute Maximum Ratings (ISENSE / IOUT = 340 mA),
-
or is there another interpretation or operating condition that explains this value?
Could you please clarify the meaning and usage condition of the 340 mA specification?

Q2. RSENSE Value Below 0.65 Ω
The datasheet specifies the minimum RSENSE value as 0.65 Ω.
Could you please confirm whether using RSENSE = 0.5 Ω / 0.55 Ω / 0.6 Ω is acceptable in practice? If not recommended, we would appreciate clarification on the specific limitations or risks.
Q3. Higher Short-Circuit Detection Current Requirement
The customer plans to use a normal load current of approximately 180 mA. Is there an alternative device or a similar ADI solution that allows the short-circuit detection current to be set above 220 mA?
Thank you very much for your support.
