input signal range to pin 2

would like to verify if this device using ±12V rails can convert a 10Vpp 1khz signal at pin2 and convert it to a rectified output to an ADC. below is how the proposed ckt is configured.

what i do not understand is what the datasheet refers to as peak transient input in table 1 on page 3 where the limit appears to be only ±4V even with ±16V rail. 

if needed i can attenuate the input and gain back up on the output for best resolution. would appreciate feedback on any changes to the ckt to make this work.
