ADN2880 for phase measurement

Thread Summary

The user inquired about phase shift in ADN2880's output voltage when approaching or exceeding the 260mVp-p differential swing, and requested estimated input current, bandwidth, and transimpedance for a 1.5pF input capacitance. The ADN2880 is not characterized as a linear amplifier, but with a 1.5pF photo-diode, the expected 3dB bandwidth is around 833MHz. Input current range and transimpedance gain are provided in the datasheet.

My application is precise optical phase measurement.

I am curious if there would be a phase shift as the output voltage from ADN2880 approaches to or goes over the maximum differential swing which is 260mVp-p.

Can you also provide me the estimated values for input current, bandwidth, and transimpedance when the input capacitance is 1.5pF?

Thread Notes

  • Dear Lockinamp,

ADN2880 is designed to support telecomm and datacomm applications. It is a quantizer design with limited output so it has limited linear detection range. The recommended photo-diode junction capacitance is 0.5pF. When you use a 1.5pF photo-diode with ADN2880, the expected 3dB-BW could be around 833MHz, given photo-diode uses the same process and photo-diode junction capacitance is the optical receiver BW dominator. The input current range and the transimpedance gain specifications are available in the datasheet.

Because of its target applications, we never characterized this TIA amplifier as a linear amplifier. No wonder the datasheet has no such information you are looking for.
