Operating in ± 2.5V dual supply Scheme

Category: Datasheet/Specs
Product Number: AD822

Hi ,

We are using the AD822 op-amp in dual supply scheme with ±2.5V supply rails.
What would be the allowable tolerance on the ±2.5V supply. Current in our design supply can go as low as 2.43V.

Thanks,

  • Hi,

Good day. The supply range should set the limits of your input voltage range and the output voltage range. You can refer to this footnotes for reference.

As long as your input voltage range and output is within your voltage supply, there should be no problem. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Gilbeys

  • Hi Gilbeys,

    Thanks for your response.

Yes, you are right. Supply range shall set the limits to input and output voltage.

I could not understand limit to supply range itself.

Example data sheet say it absolute maximum rating for the supply voltage is ±18V and mentions dual supply operating range as in the image below.

But currently in my design as mentioned in the query, the supply range goes below ±2.5V to ±2.44V in worst case.

So would like to understand can we operate below ±2.5V ? If yes, what is the limit there ?

    Thanks,

  • Hello

The AD822 op-amp is specified to operate with a minimum supply voltage of ±2.5V in a dual supply configuration. ±2.5V is the minimum supply voltage limit specified for linear operation. To ensure reliable and linear operation, it is recommended to maintain the supply voltage at or above ±2.5V. Operating the part further below ±2.5V might not be enough to power the internal circuitry inside the part, and thus, the op amp as a whole.
