LTC2057 rail to rail

if the input to IN+ or IN- are out of the range of VS+ and Vs-, then the output will rail to VS, but is there still any limitation for the input value or time of exposure, to avoid any damage to the OPAMP?

  • Hi ZRam,

The effect would generally differ from part to part, some units may survive and some would not. The behavior of the op amp above its abs max rating is really unpredictable; thus, I would not recommend driving the amplifier above the abs max rating.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks for the reply dcruz,

according to p.13 of data sheet when the output stage is completely out of headroom the short circuit current is about 30mA, but you are saying i cant trust it if VIN is far away from the absolute maximum and the opamp  might get damaged?

  • Hi ZRam,

The graphs on page 13 (Output Voltage Swing vs Load Current) tells you that the headroom on the output is dependent on how much load the amplifier is driving. If you're going to load the amplifier that sources/sinks a current of 30mA, then expect that the output headroom is big and farther away from the rails.

Now, for VIN that is much greater than the abs max rating the amplifier's behavior would not be guaranteed. The output could be distorted, clipped, or in worst case scenario the input stage could be damaged if you use a much higher input voltage than the abs max rating.

    Thanks,

    Donnie
