SSM2166: stereo link, defeat noise gate

Question

Questions regarding SSM2166: 
 - when linking two devices for stereo operation, is it possible to link the following pins, using resistors 1/2 the values indicated in the datasheet: ratio set, noise gate set, rotation set, gain adjust? 
 - can the downward expansion be successfully defeated by feeding a noise signal (or perhaps an ultrasonic tone) mixed into the buffer at a level just above the noise gate threshold, resulting in 1:1 operation below the noise signal level (of course, with the noise-free audio fed directly into the VCA rather than linked from the buffer out)?

 Interesting idea. The pin numbers were not listed, but even if the two parts came from the same date code, there will be slight differences 
 between the two, therefore, one will dominate, so I don't think it will work. Our SSM2166 expert is on vacation for a month starting yesterday, 
 so I can't give you a definitve answer.

 One of the designers said you can defeat the noise gate by simply leaving pin 9 open.
