Using Laser Diode Driver IC (ADN2871) for different polarity  laser

Hi,

I want to use an AD laser driver IC to control AC and DC current applied to the laser diode (VCSEL). All ICs I found are designed to control the cathode current of the laser diode.

The problem now is that I am working with an array of laser diodes, which has the cathodes of all the diodes wired to one pin, only the lasers anodes are individually addressable. I need to be able to control AC and DC currents for each individual laser!

Is there a way I can use, for example the ADN2871, to control the anode current of the laser by  inverting the ouput current - or something similar?

  • The ADN2871 and ADN2847 are single loop laser drivers, the modulation amplitude is open loop and is set by the current in the ERSET resistor with a gain of 100.

    Changing the value of the ERSET resistor or modulating the current in this resistor externall is also a way to externally control the modulation current.
