what is minimum dual supply rail for AD8044?

I read in an answer to a different forum question that opamps can always run on dual supplies that have the same voltage spread as single ended, i.e., 30V and ground is the same as +/-15V for Vs.  For the AD8044 the operating supply range is specified as 3-12V, and the part is tested at 3, 5 and +/-5V.  Does this really mean I can run this part with +/-1.5V supply rails (and the upper limit is then +/-6V)?  I rarely come across an opamp that can run on less than +/-2.5V so I just want to make sure.

  • I see it now, I was only looking at the output characteristics and didn’t notice the input limitation (assumed input=output range for gain of 1).  Would be useful if they could add that factoid to page 1 summary.

    Just noticed that in the circuit description it says: “On the input side, the device can handle voltages from –0.2 V below the negative rail to within 1.2 V of the positive rail.”  Would be good to know if it’s really 1V or 1.2V.
