Output Noise

Thread Summary

The user is experiencing higher than expected broadband noise (92nV/√Hz) when simulating the AD8475 differential op-amp in LTSpice, which is not suitable for 16-bit or 18-bit ADCs. The final answer suggests simulating the noise between the +out and -out nodes to account for common mode noise. The user notes that the noise at each output terminal is uncorrelated and expects the differential noise to be higher, but the source code of the LTSpice model is encrypted, making it difficult to verify the model's accuracy.

Hi,

I am trying to simulate the output noise from AD8475 diff op-amp using LTSpice (and using the example model coming with LTSpice). According to datasheet the broadband noise should be 10nv/Hz1/2 which makes it suitable to drive 16bit and 18bit ADC's.

As you can see from results of simulation the broadband noise is about 92nv/Hz1/2 and considering the bandwidth, that leads to RMS value of 512uv and pick to pick value of 3mv (roughly). These values are way higher than LSB of a 16bit ADC.

So my question is why I am getting 92nv/Hz1/2 instead of 10. And why datasheet claims that it is suitable for 16 and even 18bit ADC.
