I have a question regarding an ADC, specifically the chip AD678TD/883B. I have it hooked up in a working circuit, normal conditions, everything is working fine. Then I get a failure in the FPGA driving the AC678, making it go to high impedance and causing the voltage inputs on the AD to begin floating. My question is, assuming that all the voltages and currents stay within tolerances, can this damage the chip in any way? I checked over the spec sheets and I could find no specification for a max input time, and I’m worried that if the failure condition persisted (for, say, five to ten minutes or so) the chip could become stressed or overheat.
