AD8215 Negative Current

Good day,

Can the AD8215 handle a negative sense current, i.e. what is the maximum negative differential voltage the AD8215 can handle between the IN+ & IN- pins?  I could not find a clear answer in the datasheet.

Application:

I'm using the AD8215 to sense charge current of Li-Ion battery, however when not charging, there will be a small reverse current to keep the MCU alive.  I don't need to measure this current, I just need to know that the AD8215 is OK with it, i.e. what the electrical limits are.

Best regards,

Rean Bootsma

  • Hi Rean,

Table 2 (Absolute Maximum Ratings) in the AD8215 datasheet indicates that you should stay within 0.5V for differential input and -3V to 68V for continuous common-mode voltage.

How small is the reverse current? Let me know and I can try to confirm whether the AD8215 can handle it.

    Thanks,

    Kris
