is FMCOMMS5 a Suitable platform for direction finding or coherent for radar ?

Hello

I recently decided to purchase a AD9361 based board but i'm hesitating FMCOMMS5 and its phase calibration feature. My main goal is radar application (preferably with coherent pulse  integration) but with fmcomms5 there will be 2 chips which make a more straight forward integration such as RF SOM ADRV9361-Z7035  difficult for me as i'm not skilled in board design ( another thing i have no knowledge of :/)

i noticed an IP called loopback delay estimation in RFSOM, i don't know if that would be sufficient ? 

Also, if time domain synchronisation is sufficient for TDD? why bother with RF synchronisation.?

  • If you don't need 4x channels stay with the single AD9361.

    i noticed an IP called loopback delay estimation in RFSOM, i don't know if that would be sufficient ? 

    This example simply estimates the roundtrip delay of a signal. Is that all you need?

    Also, if time domain synchronisation is sufficient for TDD? why bother with RF synchronisation.?

    This is really dependent on your application. Can it handle random phase offsets?
