tADALM-PLUTO boots, ssh works but no data, software recognizes but won't tune.

The Pluto boots, allows logon through ssh and populates as a mass storage device. That's where any functionality ends. The IIO_Oscilloscope program recognizes the device but no channels populate and two warning triangles appear in the toolbar. The various fields under DMM in that application do function and fluctuate in what seems to be a normal manner. There are two devices available to capture data from and a sample of the measurements is below.

Up until 20 minutes ago, there were actually two contexts with the second being the expected ip: uri (ip:192.168.2.1). SSH is still up at that address. Rebooted the Pluto, still only showing the usb context. Either way, the main issue is the same.

Moved it over to the W10 machine and ran SDR-Console.

"One or more devices not found. This device did not start properly, possibly due to insufficient USB power. Reset the device and try again."

Ok, for giggles I unplugged it, plugged in a USB power supply to the right port and then the USB to the laptop. Same message.

SDRAngel on W10: Exact same issue, but no console for this one.

IIO_Oscilloscope on W10: Same but without the warning triangles. No channels available, clicking the capture (play?) button crashes the program.

I can also provide the output dmesg.

To make a long story short: There's definitely something wrong with this device but lacking anything to compare my results with (though I vaugely recall there being some logs posted that suggest I'm missing a device initialization in here somewhere) and no errors being thrown on the device itself I'm leaning toward this being an issue with the hardware itself.

Any suggestions or where do I mail this for a replacement (it was purchased from Mouser)?

(I originally updated the firmware from the .31 that shipped to .32. I have since downgraded to .31 in an attempt to resolve the issue but there has been no change, other than .32 having an unrelated error loading the 802.11 regulatory database that .31 does not have.)

  • No, it's brand new, haven't opened the case or tried any third party firmware, and it has been doing this since I first plugged it in (Well, after I finally convinced my linux machine to stop assigning 192.168.7.XX to the usb-ethernet interface, but that's another story.)

    The .32 firmware seems to have been the largely same, with the noted exception of a 802.11 reg db failure and something about ratelimiting (not that I really compared the two.)

    hmmm, something is strange here. It's not even trying to probe for the transceiver. Even if you physically remove the transceiver the driver will spit out something.

    Let me check in with the software team.

  • Are there any examples of what these logs/returns should look like?
    So there is a point at which it polls the AD9361? What interface does it use (spi,i2c) and (like i2cdetect) is there some way to manually query the device? Or is it connected directly to the logic portion (and if so, does the firmware write the bitstream each time it's updated or does it skip it if it seems to be the same version?)? Which leads me to: would trying DFU help?

    Did you change anything in your u-boot environment. For example used fw_setenv?

    Looks like the compatible string is set to something that isn't recognized.

    To fix this, save the entire plutosdr-fw-v0.32.zip onto the mass storage drive. Then eject and wait.

    This will also restore your u-boot environment. If this doesn't help.

    On the   mass storage drive open config.txt set 

    diagnostic_report = 1

    Save and then upload the generated diagnostic_report file here.
