We have started Junior League with 6 3rd grade elementary school students. This year's challenge was Boomtown Build.
Kids have learned what architects and engineers do.
- How to make building accessible to by using ramp, elevator, automatic door with sensor or push button.
- How to make building environmentally friendly by using solar panel, rooftop garden, windmill, heating/cooling building efficiently, use recycled materials, use of natural light
- How to make durable design to withstand earthquake, hurricane, flooding, tornado. Kids enjoyed making earthquake simulator and testing various building designs.
Kids decided to build environmentally friendly library building with the knowledge they have learned so far. They have programmed elevator, automatic door with sensor and windmill. Also they created rooftop garden, solar panel and lots of window to allow natural lights inside the building thus save the energy.
We have shared our project and poster with Children's Museum's young visitors during National Engineers Week.
