SCOPY spectrum measurement start frequency lower and narrower BW for 1/f noise

Category: Software
Product Number: SCOPY
Software Version: V2.1.0-rc2

Hi,

I would like to measure OP amp 1/f noise and its desired range is 0.1 Hz to 1 kHz.

I set SCOPY to log frequency mode and tried to lower its start frequency. SCOPY limits its frequency up to 1Hz and its bin width (RBW) is too wide for the desired measurement.

Is it possible making SCOPY spectrum measurement frequency lower (like 0.1Hz or 0.01Hz if possible) and spectrum bin width (RBW) much more (like 0.01Hz)?

Attachment is a capture what I could (but not fit my desired setting)

Please advise.

  • Hi

You can try capturing data at the lowest possible sampling rate and, if needed, apply additional decimation in MATLAB or another tool, before performing the FFT. The sampling rate should be chosen based on the desired FFT resolution bandwidth.

Unfortunately, we don’t have examples for this type of very low-frequency noise measurement, and Scopy currently works down to about 1Hz. Capturing data at such low frequencies will also take a long time before the FFT can be computed.

For reference, please check the Practical Introduction to Frequency-Domain Analysis, especially the section Finding Spectral Components.
