A2B max number of slots

Hi,
I want to clear one specs bout A2B. How many slots can the A2B AD2437 handle at maximum?

I’m trying to reconcile my bandwidth calculations with what is stated in the datasheet, but they don’t seem to match.

Based on my calculations, the maximum number of total slots I can achieve is:

  • 51 slots when using 16-bit audio
  • 32 slots when using 24-bit audio
  • 27 slots when using 32-bit audio

However, the datasheet seems to suggest that it is possible to use 32 slots in the downstream direction and 32 slots in the upstream direction simultaneously.

Am I missing something in how the bandwidth is allocated, or are the datasheet and product documentation somewhat unclear on this point?

    The AD2437 transceiver supports a maximum of 51 slots at 16‑bit word length (or 32 slots at 24‑bit). However, the register model only allows configuration of up to 32 slots in each direction (downstream and upstream). This means you cannot exceed 32 slots per direction, and the aggregate slot usage is further constrained by the overall bus bandwidth.

    In practice, the usable number of slots depends not only on word length but also on system factors such as the number of nodes, cable length, and slot width. Because of these bandwidth constraints, the effective slot count may be lower than the theoretical maximum.

    We recommend using SigmaStudio+ to configure your network and calculate the actual slot allocation. The tool enforces both the register limits and the bandwidth cap, so you can see exactly how many slots are valid for your design.
