I am running Windows 7 64bit edition on my PC. It supports Windows Vista 64 drivers for the most part. Is there a HPPCI-ICE driver that will work on a 64bit edition of any verion of Windows?
Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick, The latest version of VisualDSP++, VisualDSP++ 5.0, isn't supported on any version of Windows 7 and we have no immediate plans to support this operating system. I would like to make you aware that VisualDSP++ is currently not supported on any 64-bit Operating Systems. However, we have had reports of users successfully using VisualDSP++ 5.0 in such environments (Windows Vista and XP), when working with Simulator sessions but not when working with our hardware. To rectify this problem we include new drivers with 64-bit support for our USB-ICE, HPUSB-ICE and our RoHS compliant EZ-Kits, which should address most hardware related issues from VisualDSP++ 5.0 Update 5 onwards. Unfortunately we don’t currently have, or plan to create, a 64-bit compatible driver for the ADDS-HPPCI-ICE. If you wish to work with the ADDS-HPPCI-ICE then I would suggest that you install VisualDSP++ 5.0 and use a 32-bit version of one of the following Operating Systems - Windows® 2000 SP4, Windows XP® Professional SP2 (or greater), Windows Vista™ Business edition, Windows Vista Enterprise edition, Windows Vista Ultimate edition Thanks,
David.
Hi David,
I always find it interesting when a company makes a statement like "The latest version of VisualDSP++, VisualDSP++ 5.0, isn't supported on any version of Windows 7 and we have no immediate plans to support this operating system.". The reason is because if users adopt a new version of Windows, as they will with Windows 7, these companies very rapidly end up eating their words or they cease to be a consideration in the scheme of things to come.
Having said that, that is not my real problem. My real problem is the apparent lack of continued support for the HPPCI-ICE device of which I currently own 2 and which were both very expensive. As I understand it based on your reply:

ADI has no plans to continue to support the ADDS-HPPCI-ICE moving forward with 64 bit support and I suspect eventually at all. If this is the case why was it recommended to me by ADI to keep my ADDS-HPPCI-ICE devices a year ago when I could have traded them in at a reasonable price? Now I find the trade in price has gone up significantly from what it was then to get the HPUSB-ICE devices.
I just seems like to me that ADI just keep trying harder and harder to keep anyone from using their devices and tools. I would think with the economy being what it is you would want all the customers you could get.
BTW, VisualDSP++ 5.0 seems to run just fine on Windows 7 64bit, all except the HPPCI-ICE that is...

Hi Rick,
Thank you for the valuable feedback. I'm surprised that you were advised to keep the HPPCI-ICE. Upgrading to the HPUSB-ICE would be best in your situation. I will contact you directly to help expedite the process.
Regarding Windows 7, we have been testing VisualDSP++ on Windows 7 and have run into some permissions issues. We are working towards resolving these issues and hope to officially support Windows 7 in the near future. That said, we have not seen any major issues running VisualDSP++ on Windows 7 to date.
Rest assured, we are doing our best to enable customers in these difficult times. Stay tuned for upcoming offerings over the next several months.
Please let me know if you have any other ideas where we can improve our support.
Thanks,
Merril Weiner

Hi Merril,
Thank you for responding so quickly and clarifying my misunderstanding of these issues. ADI has always been my component manufacturer of choice. Their DSP, tools etc. are excellent and well thought out. They are a perfect fit for my products and I hope to continue using ADI products well into the future. I await your contact to expedite a solution to the HPPCI-ICE/HPUSB-ICE saga.
Best Regards,
Rick

We will be releasing VisualDSP++ 5.0 Update 7 in November and will provide support for Windows 7. There will be a FAQ with more information shortly. I will post a link to it on this thread as soon as it is available.

My laptop died with WindowsXP. So my new laptop has Windows7 and it works with VisualDsp 5.0 + latest patch. I was also able to connect with my HPUSB-ICE emulator. However, the ADSP kit bulk usb drivers are broken.
Hi,
We have published an FAQ detailing the Windows 7 compatibility, which can be found here: FAQ: Windows 7 Compatibility in VisualDSP++ Development Tools
